LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER TO DISCUSS EU FINANCIAL PERSPECTIVE IN THE EU GENERAL AFFAIRS AND EXTERNAL RELATIONS COUNCIL MEETING

On 21 November Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis takes part in the European Union General Affairs and External Relations Council (GAERC) meeting in Brussels, where the EU Financial Perspective for 2007-2013 will be considered.

The United Kingdom Presidency is going to acquaint the EU Foreign Ministers with the EU Members’ position on the EU budget perspectives. After a discussion the ministers will seek to identify the main problems that could arise when working towards the agreement in the European Council meeting on 15-16 December.

In the GAERC meeting it is also planned to discuss the EU Strategy for Africa, the Union’s relations with Iran, Iraq, situation in the Near East.

It is also planned to adopt the Military Requirements Catalogue, where EU military ambitions are outlined, military capabilities corresponding to the EU needs are named.

In the meeting it is planned to touch upon the preparations for the VI Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization in Hong Kong on 13-18 December.
