On 20 December, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis sent a letter of congratulation on Hungarian Parliament’s ratification of the Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe to his Hungarian counterpart Ferenc Somogyi.
In his letter A. Valionis underlined this step to show Hungary’s willingness to be an active and reliable partner of the European Union.
“Lithuania and Hungary being new members of the enlarged EU became the first to ratify this historical Treaty. I am sure these important steps made by our countries will encourage other nations of the European Union to approve this Treaty,” – is stated in the letter of congratulation to the Hungarian Foreign Minister, handed yesterday by Lithuanian Embassy in Budapest.
Lithuanian Minister emphasised his conviction that the Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe will soon embody a new period of the history of Europe, reflecting the joint EU members’ expectations.
On 20 December Hungarian Parliament ratified the Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe by large majority. Hungary became the second country after Lithuania to ratify this Treaty.
