LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER THANKS THE OUTGOING CHINESE AMBASSADOR FOR HIS SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTION TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF BILATERAL RELATIONS
On 12 December, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis thanked the outgoing Ambassador of China to Lithuania Mingtao Tong for his significant contribution to the development of bilateral relations.The meeting focused on the recently launched project of the Saule container train linking Europe to Asia, productive activities of Vilnius University Confucius Institute and the growth of tourism flows from China.
The interlocutors also discussed the events dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and China.China is one of the most important partners of Lithuania in the Asian region. The country seeks to increase bilateral and multilateral cooperation with China.
In 2010, Lithuania-China trade turnover was 1.58 billion Litas. Lithuania’s trade balance with China was negative and amounted to 1.39 billion Litas. In 2010, Lithuania’s exports to China amounted to 95.89 million Litas and, compared with 2009, increased by 26.8 percent. Lithuanian exports to China amounted to 0.81 per cent of all country’s exports. In 2010, Lithuania’s imports from China amounted to 1.49 billion Litas and, compared with 2009, increased by 32.37 per cent. In 2010, imports from China amounted to 2.4 per cent of all Lithuania’s imports.
Diplomatic relations between Lithuania and China were established on 14 October 1991.
