LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER THANKS CROATIA’S OUTGOING AMBASSADOR FOR HIS CONTRIBUTION TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF BILATERAL RELATIONS
On 20 June, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius bid farewell to the outgoing Croatian Ambassador Vladimir Matek and thanked him for his significant contribution to the development of relations between Croatia and Lithuania. During the meeting, the officials highlighted close relationship, especially the intensive cooperation between the countries in recent years. They noted that the Office of the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to the Republic of Austria in Zagreb was opened recently and underlined that the Office of the Croatian Embassy to Sweden was be opened in Vilnius.
Linkevičius also drew the Ambassador’s attention to the significance of Croatia’s membership in the European Union for the country, the region and entire Europe. Croatia will join the EU on 1 July.
“Croatia saw major changes over the last decade. Will and strong determination were needed in order to achieve the goal. Croatia can really serve as an example to other countries in the region – the county’s progress builds confidence in the EU and prospects for enlargement,” said the Foreign Minister.
Ambassador Matek presented his letters of credence to the President of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus on 28 May 2009. Lithuania and Croatia established diplomatic relations on 18 March 1992.
