LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER THANKS AUSTRIAN AMBASSADOR FOR STRENGTHENING BILATERAL RELATIONS
On 30 July in Vilnius, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the outgoing Ambassador of Austria Helmut Bernhard Koller to discuss bilateral cooperation and thanked for his personal contribution in helping to foster cultural ties between the two countries.
During the meeting, the officials welcomed growing economic cooperation: in 2012, the Lithuanian-Austrian trade turnover amounted to 847.8 million litas, and, compared to 2011, Lithuanian exports to Austria increased by 8.2 per cent while imports increased by 12.1 per cent.
The Austrian diplomat, who presented his letters of credence to the President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė on 14 September 2009, has contributed to the opening of the Salzburg Alley in Vilnius in 2010, as well as to the unveiling of a memorial plaque to Anton Schmid, the Righteous Among the Nations, in 2011.
