LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER TAKES PART IN THE EUROPEAN COUNCIL
On 23-24 March Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis on a delegation led by Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Brazauskas takes part in the European Council in Brussels.
The European Council is to discuss the EU energy policy, implementation of the Lisbon strategy as well as the Services Directive.
Before his departure to the meeting Minister Valionis stated that during the European Council it is very important for Lithuania as well as for other Baltic States to discuss how to avoid energy isolation.
“Our situation is specific. We have no interconnections with the European Union therefore we are not a part of the EU internal market. The European Commission regards the preparation of the European interconnection plan as the main task. We consider this plan an urgent measure for dealing with isolated energy markets. This should be a priority for the EU,” Lithuanian Foreign Minister said.
