LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER TAKES PART IN EASTERN PARTNERSHIP SUMMIT IN WARSAW

On 29-30 September Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis  on a delegation led by President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė participates in the European Union Eastern Partnership Summit in Warsaw, in the course of which relations with neighboring Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine  are  being discussed.

During the meetings, Minister A.Ažubalis intends to emphasize that this year it is particularly important to successfully complete negotiations on the EU free trade agreement with Ukraine and to start talks on free trade with Moldova and Georgia, as well as continue the process of visa regime liberalization with all six eastern partners of the EU. According to the Minister, the EU and its neighbors have a historic opportunity to establish freedom, democracy and the rule of  law in Eastern Europe, that have been sought for years.

At the plenary session on 30 September leaders of the EU and partner states discuss political and economic cooperation, implementation of joint projects and new initiatives aimed at improving the links between citizens of the EU and eastern neighbors, at strengthening of civil society organizations and development of their activities.

Summit  in Warsaw is a meeting of  the EU and partner countries heads of state and government, dedicated to discussion of EU's special initiative for  relations with its eastern neighbors that has been implemented for two years.
