LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER STRESSES THE IMPORTANCE OF THE NEW START TREATY TO THE U.S. DAILY

The article “U.S. allies in Europe concerned about a possible failure of New START” that was published in the issue of 21 November of “The Washington Post” daily focuses on the call for the U.S.A. to ratify the new Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START). Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis is quoted in the article.

“We see this treaty as a prologue, as an entrance to start talks about sub-strategical weaponry, which is much more even dangerous” than the bigger weapons. “We, who are living in Eastern Europe especially, know this,” the daily quotes Foreign Minister A.Ažubalis.

On 19-20 November at the Summit Meeting of NATO Heads of State and Government in Lisbon, six countries of the Alliance, including Lithuania, encouraged the U.S.A. to ratify the new Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START). The new treaty was signed on 8 April in Prague.
