LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER SAYS THAT LITHUANIA IS INTERESTED IN CONSTRUCTIVE CONTRIBUTION TO DEVELOPING DIALOGUE BETWEEN ASIA AND THE WEST
On 22 March during international conference “Asia’s Economic Development and the European Union: View of the New EU Members” in Vilnius Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis underlined that Lithuania is interested in protection of Western values in Asia and constructive contribution to developing dialogue between Asia and the West.
“Membership in the European Union and NATO as well as our participation in European-Asian dialogue expands our possibilities to act, but also places greater responsibility upon our country,” the Head of Lithuanian Diplomacy stated at the conference.
Talking about development of Lithuanian-Asian relations Mr Valionis underlined, that Lithuania should seek investment from this region and invest itself according to our possibilities.
“Our aim is to ensure that Lithuanian voice is heard and respected in Asia too. We should reform Lithuanian economy so that it is ready to withstand competitive pressure of Asian states,” Foreign Minister said.
Minister Valionis noted that Lithuanian policy towards Asia should be coherent and deliberate aimed at quality not at image.
