On 1 September, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis addressed Chairman of the Lithuanian Radio and TV Commission Jonas Liniauskas asking to determine whether it was expedient to broadcast TV channels controlled by state structures of some neighbouring countries in the Republic of Lithuania, which serve as tools of propaganda against the country.
In the Minister’s opinion, the show “Secrets of Age” broadcasted by The First Baltic Channel on a cable TV distorted the historical truth about the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact and its outcomes. One could see that the vindicated Lithuania’s occupation as well as questioned the legal grounds of sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Lithuania. This threatens the dignity of the Lithuanian citizens and may stir ethno-national enmity.
The Minister asked to determine, whether this broadcast had not violated the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania, the public information law and other legal norms indispensable for the broadcasted programmes.
