On 17 December Lithuanian Foreign Minister Antanas Valionis met with Romanian Defence Minister Ioan Mircea Pascu and his official delegation.
At the meeting, issues of Lithuanian-Romanian cooperation and development of bilateral military ties were discussed. The ministers expressed mutual resolve to carry on cooperation within the framework of “Vilnius Ten”. Opinions were exchanged on the situation in Yugoslavia and the Balkans. Also, participation of both countries in the antiterrorist operation in Afghanistan, the problem of Iraq, Romanian relations with Hungary and Moldova after the expected EU enlargement in 2004 and issues of illegal migration were discussed.
Chief of Lithuanian diplomacy Antanas Valionis congratulated Romanian Defence Minister Ioan Mircea Pascu on the NATO decision of the Prague Summit to invite Romania to join the Alliance.
During his two-day visit, the Romanian defence minister was also received by President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus and had a meeting with Lithuanian Defence Minister Linas Linkevičius.
