LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER: POLAND’S PARTICIPATION IN THE NUCLEAR STATION BUILDING PROJECT IS PARTICULARLY SIGNIFICANT
On 8 December Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas met with Polish Minister of State Treasury Wojciech Jasinski, Minister of Economy Piotr Wozniak and Minister of Transport Jerzy Polaczek, who paid a working visit to Vilnius, and discussed Lithuanian-Polish bilateral relations and joint energy and infrastructure projects – Rail Baltica and Via Baltica.
During the discussion special attention was paid to Lithuanian-Polish electricity bridge project and Poland’s participation in the new nuclear station building in Lithuania that is under negotiation between the Baltic States and Poland.
Foreign Minister Vaitiekūnas underlined that the building of a nuclear station is of special importance for economy and energy security.
“Participation of four new members of the EU - Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland – in this project would be an important input in energy security of the region. In this context Poland’s participation is of particular significance,” Lithuanian Foreign Minister underlined.
Polish ministers marked that Lithuania’s interest in Poland’s participation is very important.
Minister Vaitiekūnas also informed Polish ministers that Lithuanian companies seek to increase their investments in Poland.
Lithuanian Minister of Transport and Communications Algirdas Butkevičius and Minister of Economy Vytas Navickas also took part in the meeting.
