Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis, currently participating in the 58th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, met with Jordanian Foreign Minister Marwan Muasher and UN Undersecretary General for Political Affairs Kieran Prendergast.
At the meetings, the Iraqi situation and possible actions by the international community to guarantee security in Iraq and rebuild the country were discussed.
On the same day, 29 September, Minister Valionis met with the foreign ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mongolia, Liechtenstein and East Timor and the permanent representatives of Finland, Australia, Canada, Ireland and Luxembourg at the United Nations.
The officials discussed the importance of multilateral cooperation for the countries and the UN activities as well as issues related to Lithuania’s candidature to the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in 2005.
