LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER OFFERS CONDOLENCES TO GEORGIA FOR SEVEN FALLEN SOLDIERS IN AFGHANISTAN
On 7 June, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius sent a letter to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Maia Panjikidze, offering condolences on behalf of the Lithuanian people for the loss of seven Georgian servicemen killed in the line of duty in Afghanistan’s Helmand province.
Yesterday’s blast killed most Georgian soldiers since November 2009, when the country joined the mission of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF). Other nine Georgians were wounded. Georgia is the largest non-NATO contributor to the war effort in Afghanistan. Last autumn, Georgia increased its contribution to the mission to over 1,560 servicemen.
