LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER MET WITH THE PERSONAL REPRESENTATIVE OF THE OSCE CHAIR-IN-OFFICE ON COMBATING ANTI-SEMITISM

On 25 November in Vilnius, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Audronius Ažubalis met with Andrew Baker, Personal Representative of the Organization’s for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Chair-in-Office on Combating Anti-Semitism. The Minister expressed the intentions of Lithuania’s upcoming OSCE chairmanship to maintain the direction of the OSCE of promoting tolerance and of searching for the most effective measures in various ways, especially for tolerance promotion through education. The organization has been fostering this direction until now.

The interlocutors discussed possibilities during Lithuania’s OSCE chairmanship to make joint effort initiating an international conference on tolerance, fight against racism, xenophobia and discrimination and inviting representatives from a broad range of both media and non-governmental organizations.

The Minister asked A.Baker about the current situation of combating anti-Semitism in the OSCE space and stressed that a number of initiatives would be dedicated to mark 2011 as the Year of Remembrance of Holocaust Victims in Lithuania.

A.Baker is one of the three Personal Representatives of the OSCE Chair-in-Office on combating anti-Semitism and promotion of greater tolerance and fight against racism, xenophobia and discrimination.
