LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER MET WITH NATO SECRETARY GENERAL

On 31 January, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis met with NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer at NATO Headquarters in Brussels.
The Head of the Alliance highly appreciated Lithuania’s decision to lead one of the Provincial Reconstruction Teams in Western Afghanistan.J. de Hoop Scheffer emphasised this to be a very important decision. Lithuania clearly demonstrating fulfilment of its commitments to the Alliance became an example for other even bigger allies.
The Minister and NATO Secretary General also discussed preparation for the NATO Foreign Ministers Meeting which will take place in Vilnius on 21-22 April.
A.Valionis and J. de Hoop Scheffer deliberated on the framework programme of this meeting including possibility of holding in Vilnius foreign ministers meetings in the framework of NATO-Ukraine Commission and NATO-Russia Council
