Lithuanian Foreign Minister meets the Director General of UNESCO

On April 23, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Antanas Valionis met Director General of UNESCO Koichiro Matsuura, who visits Vilnius for an international conference 'Dialogue Among Civilizations' starting on April 24. During the meeting, Minister Valionis thanked Director General Matsuura for his visit to Lithuania and giving his patronage to that international event. Lithuanian Foreign Minister has expressed his support for the reforms carried out by the Director General in UNESCO. The Minister has also stressed the importance of the implementation of UNESCO programs in Lithuania and the value of the assistance, which UNESCO gives to the Lithuanian sites included into the World Heritage List, namely the Old Town of Vilnius and the Curonian Spit. The participants of the meeting have also shared their views on which other Lithuanian objects could be included both into the World Heritage List and the newly created List of Verbal and Immaterial Heritage.
