On 29-30 August, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Antanas Valionis participated in the EU Regional Conference "Partners in Prevention" held in the Swedish town of Helsingborg, where high officials of the UN, NATO, EU and OSCE gathered to discuss possibilities of closer cooperation of international organisations in solving issues of conflict prevention.
During the Conference, the chief of Lithuanian diplomacy met with European Union's Commissioner for Enlargement Günter Verheugen and discussed the issue of transit through the Lithuanian territory to the Kaliningrad Region of the Russian Federation as well as conclusion of negotiations on the chapter of Free Movement of Capital.
At the meeting with Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe Jan Kubiš, the situation in Belarus was discussed; Minister Valionis inquired about the activities of the OSCE missions in the Commonwealth of Independent States.
Also, the Lithuanian Foreign Minister met with Secretary General of the Council of Europe Walter Schwimmer and discussed the aftermath of Lithuania’s presidency of the CoE, implementation of Vilnius Declaration on regional co-operation, the situation in the Republic of Belarus and states of the Southern Caucasus.
