LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER MEETS HEAD OF WORLD TOURISM ORGANISATION

On 31 May in Vilnius, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis met with Secretary General of the World Tourism Organisation Francesco Frangialli. At the meeting, the officials exchanged opinions on the development of tourism sector in Lithuania and the world. Lithuania joined the World Tourism Organisation in 2003, during the 15th General Assembly of the Organisation in Beijing. Antanas Valionis assured Francesco Frangialli that Lithuania would be an active member of the World Tourism Organisation. Since 24 December 2003, the World Tourism Organisation operates as a specialised agency of the United Nations. 142 states are members of this Organisation. Lithuania is the only Baltic state, which is a member of the World Tourism Organisation.
