LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER MEETS EU COMMISSIONER IN KYIV

Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis met with European Commissioner Christopher Patten at the end of his visit in Kyiv on 10 November. During the conversation, both officials discussed the New Neighbourhood Initiative, the development of action plan for strengthening the EU-Ukrainian relations, Lithuania’s support to Ukraine in implementing political and economic reforms and expansion of the EU-Ukraine Partnership and Cooperation Agreement with a view to the new EU members. On 10 November, Antanas Valionis and Christopher Patten participated in the International Conference “Wider Europe: Cooperation in the Central Eastern Europe through the Common Borders with Enlarged EU”. At the Conference, the Lithuanian Foreign Minister delivered a speech “The EU and Eastern Neighbours”. At the Conference, aspects and perspectives of relations between the new EU Member States and Ukraine, Moldova, Russia and other countries were discussed, as well as possible changes in economic relations of Ukraine and the ten future EU Member States with the EU. Much attention was drawn to the issues of migration, in particular, the visa regime between Ukraine and the new EU Member States.
