On 9 September, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis met Costa Rican Vice Minister of Foreign and Cult Affairs Marco Vinicio Vargas, visiting Vilnius.
At the meeting, Antanas Valionis and Marco V.Vargas discussed the bilateral relations of Lithuania and Costa Rica, successful cooperation of the states in international organisations as well as dynamics of the bilateral trade.
By this meeting Marco V.Vargas ended his working visit in Lithuania. In Vilnius, the Vice Minister also met Undersecretary of Lithuanian Ministry of Economy Gediminas Rainys.
During the conversations of the Costa Rican Vice Minister of Foreign and Cult Affairs with Undersecretary of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Albinas Januška and Director of the Multilateral Relations Department Rokas Bernotas, the officials discussed efforts of the international community to regulate the practise of cloning as well as equalisation of maximal length of visa-free travels for citizens of both countries.
Lithuania established diplomatic relations with Costa Rica, a country in Central America with 3,9 million inhabitants, in 1922, which were restored 12 years ago. During the years of Soviet occupation, Costa Rica followed a consistent policy of not recognising Lithuania’s annexation.
