LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER IS TO DISCUSS LITHUANIA‘S ACTIVITIES WITHIN THE UNITED NATIONS IN NEW YORK

On 19-21 March, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis is paying a visit to New York. He will present Lithuania’s long-term objectives within the United Nations and will discuss the country’s activities within this organisation related to its upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2013.

During his visit, Ažubalis is to hold meetings with representatives of various countries to the United Nations and heads of regional organizations to discuss the priorities and achievements of Lithuania’s multilateral policy, perspectives and directions for cooperation in the United Nations, important issues of global policy and the role of the UN in tackling a range of crises.

The Minister will also present Lithuania’s aspirations for the UN, including the candidature of Lithuania to the post of the President of the 67th session of UN General Assembly and to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2014-2015.

Ažubalis will meet with representatives from the U.S. Jewish organizations and will discuss with them the projects that are dedicated to the perpetuation of the memory of the victims of the Holocaust in Lithuania.

Lithuania was admitted to membership in the United Nations on 17 September 1991.
