LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER INVITES THE NETHERLANDS TO PARTICIPATE AT THE HIGHEST POLITICAL LEVEL IN THE VILNIUS SUMMIT

At the meeting with the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Lithuania Kornelis Willem Spaans on 16 April, the Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius discussed bilateral cooperation and Lithuania’s upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Linkevičius acquainted the Ambassador with the priorities of Lithuania’s upcoming Presidency of the EU Council and noted that Lithuania would focus on financial stability, smart growth and job creation, an open, safe and secure Europe, and the neighbourhood.

The head of the Lithuanian diplomacy invited the Netherlands to participate at the highest political level in the Eastern Partnership Summit, which will be held in Vilnius in November, and stressed the importance of this cooperation initiative.

Linkevičius and Spaans noted that Lithuania and the Netherlands enjoyed great political and economic relationship; the bilateral trade turnover amounted to 9 billion litas. According to them, the two countries also enjoy an intensive cooperation within the European Union and other international organisations, including the framework for cooperation between the Baltic States and the Benelux countries.

Ambassador Spaans presented his letters of credence to the President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė on 29 November 2012.
