LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER INVITED PARTICIPANTS OF THE WORLD LITHUANIAN ECONOMIC FORUM TO BE ACTIVE AND BUILD A COMPETITIVE FUTURE LITHUANIA
Science, business and government partnership is the key to success in creating a competitive future Lithuania,” Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis said at the opening ceremony of the World Lithuanian Economic Forum on 4 July in Vilnius. This year the event that joins together businessmen of the Lithuanian background, experts of economy and scientists from around the world, invites participants to discuss the building of a competitive state, investment in innovation and knowledge and the business and education partnership.
According to the Foreign Minister, goals of the already traditional World Lithuanian Economic Forum are being successfully implemented.“Such events help to create a global network of the Lithuanian business, strengthen the country’s economic presence in the world, establish business contacts and attract foreign investments,” A.Ažubalis said.
The Minister invited participants of the Forum to submit specific proposals to the Government so that the education and business partnership would contribute to the strategic goal of Lithuania, which is to become one of the most competitive countries in the Nordic-Baltic region.
This year, the World Lithuanian Economic Forum is held together with the World Lithuanian Symposium on Arts and Sciences. According to A.Ažubalis, the interaction of these two events is a good opportunity to aim at creating greater synergy of business, academia and government, and at generating new ideas that are needed to build the modern economy of Lithuania.
“It is a good example of our joint efforts and wishes to act that practically realizes joint initiatives of world Lithuanians and implements the idea of ‘Global Lithuania’ that is based on the understanding that we all are one viable nation, and, regardless of where we live, we foster our Lithuanian identity, maintain and strengthen our ties with Lithuania, and are engaged in the state-building process,” the head of the Lithuanian diplomacy said.
Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs actively supports and finances the World Lithuanian Economic Forum. The first congresses of the world Lithuanian businessmen, which gave rise to the World Lithuanian Economic Forum, were held in 1990 and 1992. In 2009, the World Lithuanian Economic Forum took place in Vilnius, and in 2010 it was organized in London.
