LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER IN JAPAN: A WELCOME SPEECH AT THE LITHUANIAN CULTURE FESTIVAL AND MEETINGS WITH FRIENDS OF LITHUANIA

On 3 November, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis started his visit to Japan with a stopover at the Lithuanian culture festival “Sharing. A Journey to Lithuania”. The festival is currently taking place in Tokyo, it is dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Independence of Lithuania. Delivering a welcome speech to the participants of the event, members of the Lithuanian community in Japan and members of the Japan-Lithuania Friendship Association, Minister A.Ažubalis expressed satisfaction at the fact that Lithuania had so many loyal friends in Japan and that the two countries enjoyed active cultural exchanges despite the distance between them.

“The Feast” exhibition of felted wool by the textile artists’ group White Moths, theoretical and practical workshops of wool felting, the traditional and contemporary textile artwork installation “The Dialog”, and a photo exhibition of the Lithuanian historical and cultural artifacts with comments in the Japanese language are taking place at the creative space Amu in Tokyo. A lecture is planned to be held about the Lithuanian cuisine featuring the preparation and tasting of the traditional dishes. During the closing ceremony of the festival, the group Trys keturiose (“Three in Four”) that specializes in the original Lithuanian polyphonic singing will perform a programme entitled “The Linen Times” (Lino laikas), which includes video projections.

 In Tokyo, the Foreign Minister and the business delegation from Lithuania also held meetings with Honorary Consul of Lithuania in Japan Takeo Obayashi, who is also the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Obayashi Corporation, the fourth-largest construction company in the country, and with a long-standing friend of Lithuania, former Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs Hirofumi Nakasone. H.Nakasone has been the chairman of Japan-Lithuania Friendship Diet Member’s League at the Japanese Parliament since 2003.
