LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER EXPRESSES CONDOLENCES OVER THE DEATH OF THE FAMOUS CZECH POLITICIAN
Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis extended condolences to Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Karel Schwarzenberg over the death of Jiří Dienstbier, the first Minister of Foreign Affairs of post-communist Czechoslovakia.
“We will always remember him as the first Minister of Foreign Affairs of post-communist Czechoslovakia, one of the leaders of Velvet revolution, a man who devoted his life to fighting against totalitarianism, building a civil society and promoting democracy in the Czech Republic and in the whole Europe,” A.Ažubalis’s letter of 10 January reads.J.Dienstbier (1937-2011) was an active participant in the Prague Spring, then dissident and politician, who fought for human rights and democratic freedoms. He was Member of the Senate of the Parliament of Czechoslovakia and later of the Czech Republic, UN Special Envoy on human rights in former Yugoslavia.
