LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER CONVEYS HIS CONDOLENCES OVER THE DEATH OF A LITHUANIAN CUSTOMS OFFICER IN NORTHERN KOSOVO

On 19 September, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius expressed his condolences over the death of Lithuanian customs officer Audrius Šenavičius in northern Kosovo to the bereaved family and strongly condemned the use of violence against the staff of the peaceful European Union Rule of Law Mission.

“I send my deepest condolences over the death of the officer to the bereaved family and wish them strength at this time of grief,” L.Linkevičius says. The Foreign Minister also expressed hope that the incident would be quickly investigated.

EULEX Kosovo staff members on duty came under fire on 19 September in the vicinity of Zveçan at Kosovo’s northern border with Serbia. The incident resulted in the death of the Lithuanian customs officer Audrius Šenavičius. The incident occurred early Thursday morning.

A.Šenavičius has served in the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo since August 2012.

Lithuania stresses that ensuring stability and security in the region remains an EU priority.
