LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER BIDS FAREWELL TO THE OUTGOING AMBASSADOR OF CHINA

On 14 November, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Petras Vaitiekūnas received the outgoing Ambassador of China Jang Siuping. The Head of Lithuanian diplomacy thanked the Ambassador for her contribution to the development of bilateral political, economic and cultural relations between Lithuania and China. The Minister congratulated China, who successfully hosted several major international events this year - the Olympic Games and the 7th Asia-Europe summit (ASEM) in Beijing.

Ambassador J. Siuping is the fourth Ambassador of China to reside in Lithuania. Ambassador started her duties in 2004.

Lithuania and China established diplomatic relations on 14 September 1991. Chinese Embassy in Vilnius was opened in 1992.

In the first half of 2008 trade turnover between Lithuania and China amounted to 884.7 million litas. The trade balance was negative and amounted to 809.5 million litas. In 2007, trade turnover between Lithuania and China amounted to 1772.3 million litas. The trade balance was negative and amounted to 1666.3 million litas.
