Lithuanian Foreign Minister bids farewell to outgoing Ambassadors of Japan and UK

On 9 June, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with Japan’s outgoing Ambassador to Lithuania Kazuko Shiraishi and the outgoing British Ambassador to Lithuania David Hunt.

The Lithuanian Foreign Minister thanked the Japanese Ambassador for her active efforts aimed to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation. The Minister also welcomed the growth in bilateral Lithuania-Japan trade in recent years.

Linkevičius highlighted the importance of cooperation in the field of international peace and thanked for maintaining a principled position on the Ukrainian crisis.

Linkevičius thanked the outgoing British Ambassador to Lithuania David Hunt for his significant contribution to the development of relations between Lithuania and the United Kingdom.

Linkevičius underlined that Lithuania highly appreciated the good bilateral relationship with the United Kingdom and was interested in further expanding cooperation.

According to the Lithuanian Foreign Minister, the United Kingdom is Lithuania’s significant partner and ally, and the two countries enjoy strong economic and political ties. Linkevičius underlined that the United Kingdom was an important member of the European Union.

The head of the Lithuanian diplomacy welcomed the United Kingdom’s strong and consistent position on Russia. He also thanked the Ambassador for cooperation on strategic communications and the fight against propaganda.

The United Kingdom is also a significant trading partner for Lithuania.

Kazuko Shiraishi has served as the Japanese Ambassador to Lithuania since June 2012. She is Japan’s 9th Ambassador to Lithuania and the 2nd one residing in Lithuania. David Hunt has served as the British Ambassador to Lithuania since June 2011.
