LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER AND THE NEW SPANISH AMBASSADOR DISCUSSED THE CELEBRATION OF THE ANNIVERSARY OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS AND BUSINESS TIES
On 28 April, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis met with newly appointed Spanish Ambassador Miguel Arias Estévez and discussed the anniversary celebration of diplomatic relations, promotion of business contacts between the countries and major international events that are organized in Lithuania this year.
At the meeting, the Foreign Minister and the Ambassador discussed the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Spain this year. The diplomatic relations between the countries were re-established on 7 October 1991.The Ambassador said that Lithuania had created favourable environment for foreign investments and promised to encourage Spanish companies invest in Lithuania.
The Minister noted that last time the Spanish Foreign Minister visited Lithuania ten years ago. Therefore, the events of the Community of Democracies on June 30 and July 1 in Vilnius would be a great opportunity for such a visit.
Minister A.Ažubalis also conveyed an invitation to Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Trinidad Jiménez to come and watch the European Men’s Basketball Championship that is organized in Lithuania this year. The Spanish team will defend its title at EuroBasket 2011.
The Ambassador promised to make efforts to continue developing the Lithuanian-Spanish political and economic relations even more intensively.
Ambassador Miguel Arias Estévez took his office in Lithuania in March 2011. He worked in Germany, Serbia, Gabon, the United States, Mexico and other countries before. Prior to his appointment in Lithuania, the diplomat was responsible for international cooperation in the area of sport.
