LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER AND THE NEW FRENCH AMBASSADOR TO LITHUANIA DISCUSS THE IMPLEMENTATION OF BILATERAL STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP
At the meeting with the new French Ambassador to Lithuania Maryse Berniau on 7 November, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis stressed the close cooperation between the countries and discussed important issues of bilateral relations, the visit of Prime Minister François Fillon to Lithuania and the implementation of the Strategic Partnership Action Plan that was signed this year.
At the meeting, the interlocutors discussed the economic cooperation between the countries and emphasized the intensifying trade ties of Lithuania and France.A.Ažubalis and the Ambassador also discussed energy perspectives for Lithuania. M.Berniau highlighted the possibilities for bilateral cooperation in the field of nuclear safety. The Minister voiced concern over the nuclear energy projects that are being implemented in Lithuania’s neighborhood.
At the end of the meeting, the Minister congratulated the Ambassador on assuming office and wished her success in strengthening bilateral relations between Lithuania and France, and in developing the dialogue between the countries at the international and regional levels.
Ambassador M. Berniau presented her credentials to President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė on 3 November.
Diplomatic relations of Lithuania and France were re-established on 29 August 1991.
