LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER AND ROMANIAN AMBASSADOR DISCUSS EU AGENDA, EASTERN PARTNERSHIP ISSUES

On 11 April in Vilnius, the Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius and Romanian Ambassador to Lithuania Dano Balanescu discussed important issues on bilateral and international agendas, such as the European Neighbourhood Policy’s Eastern dimension and cooperation in the context of Lithuania’s upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Linkevičius stressed that Lithuania positively assessed the Romanian experience and expert knowledge in the EU’s Eastern Partnership countries, especially in Moldova and Ukraine.

The Minister invited Romania to participate at the highest political level in the Eastern Partnership Summit this November in Vilnius.

Balanescu noted that Lithuania and Romania had similar foreign policy goals - energy security, transatlantic partnership, the European Neighbourhood Policy - and these were just a few of the areas in which Romania saw great potential in successful cooperation with Lithuania.

From the end of 2012, Balanescu is the Romanian Ambassador residing in Vilnius. The Ambassador presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė on 7 December 2012.
