LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER AND NORWAY’S MINISTER OF DEFENCE DISCUSS SECURITY POLICY COOPERATION

On 21 June, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis met with Norway’s Minister of Defence Grete Faremo and discussed with her the Lithuanian-Norwegian security policy cooperation.A.Ažubalis and G.Faremo emphasized the importance of the Baltic-Nordic security and defence cooperation, and said that they saw many opportunities to increase bilateral co-operation within NATO.

A.Ažubalis thanked G.Faremo for Norway’s contribution to the implementation of NATO’s air policing mission and stressed the importance of increasing NATO’s visibility in member countries.

According to the head of the Lithuanian diplomacy and Norway’s Minister of Defence, NATO remains the main pillar of European security.

According to A.Ažubalis, Lithuania aims at strengthening NATO’s practical preparations for the implementation of the Alliance’s principle of collective defence, organizing of training, building military capabilities and developing infrastructure.

The Lithuanian Foreign Minister acquainted Norway’s Minister of Defence with priorities of Lithuania’s Chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). The Ministers shared the opinion that there was a need to support the strengthening of border control capacities at Afghanistan’s borders with the Central Asian states.
