LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER AND MOLDOVA’S DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER DISCUSSED POSSIBILITIES FOR THE SETTLEMENT OF TRANSNISTRIAN CONFLICT
On 21 December in Vilnius, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis met with Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Victor Osipov and discussed with him the priorities for Lithuania’s chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and possibilities for the settlement of Transnistrian conflict.
When preparing to assume the OSCE chairmanship on 1 January, Lithuania launched discussions and consultations with all the concerned parties that are involved in negotiation process on Transnistrian conflict settlement. The visit of Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister is a step forward in the preparations for Lithuania’s incoming OSCE chairmanship, which will follow the principles of openness, transparency and impartiality.Lithuania intends to focus on re-launching the official negotiations regarding the Transnistrian conflict in the 5+2 format (Moldova, Transnistria, Ukraine, Russia, the OSCE, the U.S.A. and the European Union), also promoting the confidence building measures and other conflict resolution mechanisms.
Deputy Prime Minister V.Osipov thanked Minister A.Ažubalis for Lithuania’s support to Moldova’s European integration through the implementation of internal reforms, for dedicating attention to the Transnistrian conflict settlement and to the reintegration of the country.
Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister and Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs also discussed the results of Moldova’s early parliamentary elections on 28 November and the political situation in this Eastern European country.
