LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER AND GEORGIAN FOREIGN MINISTER DISCUSS PROSPECTS OF BILATERAL COOPERATION
On 14 December, Lithuania’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius had a phone conversation with Georgia’s Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze. The Ministers expressed their determination to further develop warm and friendly bilateral relations between Lithuania and Georgia.
Linkevičius said that Lithuania supported Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration aspirations. The Minister also pointed out the importance of further implementation of reforms in Georgia.
When speaking about bilateral relations, the Minister stressed that Lithuania and Georgia had a well-functioning instrument of bilateral cooperation – the Lithuania-Georgia Commission for the European and Euro-Atlantic Integration – which was established by the foreign ministries of the two countries with an aim to help Georgia move toward its goals.
The Ministers agreed to hold a meeting on 11 January 2013, when Lithuania will host an annual informal Snow Meeting. The meeting brings together European and North American experts in international affairs and security. It will be also attended by Georgia’s Foreign Minister. During her visit, the Ministers also plan to sign the annual action plan for 2013 set out in the Lithuania-Georgia Charter on European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
