LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OF EUROPEAN DEFENCE AGENCY DISCUSS EU PRESIDENCY’S KEY ISSUES RELATED TO SECURITY AND DEFENCE
On 14 May, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with Claude-France Arnould, the Chief Executive of the European Defence Agency, who is paying a visit to Vilnius. The officials discussed aspects of Lithuania’s incoming Presidency of the EU Council related to the dimension of the Common Security and Defence Policy.
The meeting of Arnould and Linkevičius focused mainly on the EU-NATO cooperation, energy and cyber security issues.
In Vilnius, the Chief Executive of the European Defence Agency also visited the Ministry of National Defence and NATO Centre of Excellence for energy security.
Lithuania has joined two Agency’s projects: the European Air Transport Fleet (EATF) and Maritime Surveillance (MARSUR). In April, Baltic Ministers of National Defence signed a European Defence Agency’s (EDA) joint procurement arrangement for different types of Carl Gustav recoilless anti-tank and multi-purpose ammunition. This is the first time that the Agency has taken over the coordination of such a project.
