LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER AND ANTANAS MOCKUS DISCUSS THE IDEA OF GLOBAL LITHUANIA

On 28 June, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis received a Lithuanian living in Colombia, Professor Antanas Mockus and discussed with him the idea of Global ​​Lithuania, people-to-people contacts and cultural relations between Lithuania and Colombia.

A.Ažubalis expressed trust that the Global Lithuania programme would reduce the divide between the residents of Lithuanian and emigrants from this country.

The programme focuses on new information technology, which would allow engaging Lithuanians living abroad more into the decision-taking process in Lithuania.

A.Mockus shared best practices on engaging people through the social media and prompting the processes. He has gained this experience as a candidate in Colombia’s presidential elections.

The famous Lithuanian from Colombia came to Kaunas to take part in the World Lithuanian Symposium on Arts and Sciences on 3-5 July. He is to deliver a speech at the Symposium.

A.Mockus is a philosopher, mathematician, politician and one of the most prominent Lithuanians of Colombia. He was born in 1952 in Colombia, into a Lithuanian family. He studied mathematics in France and in Colombia, and received a Master’s degree in philosophy from the National University of Colombia. In 1990-1993, A.Mockus was Rector of the National University of Colombia. From 1995 to 1997 and from 2001 to 2003 he served as Mayor of Bogotá. In 2006 and in 2010, A.Mockus took part in Colombia’s presidential election.
