For the second year in a row, the Twitter account of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry, @LithuaniaMFA, was ranked in the top 5 of the best-connected Twitter accounts of the world leaders and institutions.

This was revealed in the annual Twiplomacy study by the public relations and communications firm Burson-Marsteller, which explores the ways that world leaders and institutions use Twitter, in particular focusing on their mutual connections.

This year, by the number of mutual connections, the European External Action Service came in the first place, with a total of 122 mutual connections. The Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs came in the fifth position, with 97 mutual connections.

According to the study results published last year, Lithuania also came in the fifth position. Over the past year, the number of mutual connections increased from 86 to 97.

At the moment, the Foreign Ministry’s Twitter account has a total of 44,100 followers and is one of the most popular accounts in Lithuania. The tweets by Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius are followed by 49,700 people.
