LITHUANIAN EMBASSY IN MINSK HOSTS A MEETING TO DISCUSS WAYS FOR INCREASING THE FLOW OF TOURISTS

On 18 February, Lithuanian embassy in Belarus hosted a meeting of inter-institutional working group which deals with the issues of improving the procedures of visa issuance for tourists. The meeting focused on the possibilities to increase the flow of Belarusian tourists coming to Lithuania this year.

 

The participants of the meeting discussed the possibilities to promote the Lithuanian spa town of Druskininkai, it was agreed that greater attention should be dedicated to tourism marketing and the presentation of Lithuania in the world. Some problems related to the duration of crossing the border between the countries were also mentioned as obstacles to increase the attractiveness of Lithuania.

The members of the working group got acquainted with the procedures of Schengen visa issuance at the embassy of Lithuania.

The embassy in Minsk is one of the leading Lithuanian representations as far as the issuance of visas is concerned. In 2010, it issued almost 83 thousand visas, which makes 30 per cent of all visas issued by Lithuanian visa services abroad. Compared to the number of visas issued by the Lithuanian embassy in Belarus in 2009, the number increased by approximately 18 per cent.

The working group was formed by the decision of Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis. The meeting of the group in Minsk was attended by representatives from Foreign Affairs and Economy ministries, embassy in Belarus, State Tourism Department, Lithuanian Tourism Association, Druskininkai Tourism and Business Information Centre. Foreign Vice-Minister Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė is the head of the working group.
