LITHUANIAN EMBASSY IN KYIV RECEIVES POSITIVE EVALUATION FROM UKRAINE'S CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATION
On 27 October in Kyiv, Ukraine’s civil society organization Europe without Barriers announced the ratings among the consulates of Schengen countries in Ukraine. The Lithuanian Embassy in Kyiv is listed on the second place of the rating.Rating of consulates is based on the results of the public monitoring that was carried out in July and August this year with an aim to assess visa issuing policy and practices of twenty Schengen countries.
The main criteria for analysis were the number of visa refusals, visa application processing time and the number of required additional documents. According to the last criterion, the Lithuanian Embassy in Kyiv was rated the best among all diplomatic missions that provide consular services in Ukraine.The civil society organization analysed the results of diplomatic missions of Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Switzerland in Ukraine.
The Hungarian representations achieved first place.
Europe without Barriers monitors the provision of consular services since 2003. Similar rating of consulates was carried out in 2006, 2008 and 2009.
Currently, the agreement between the European Community and Ukraine on the facilitation of the issuance of visas is in effect. Further visa liberalization perspectives for Ukraine will be discussed at the EU-Ukraine Summit on 22 November in Brussels.
