LITHUANIAN DIPLOMATS WON THE FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT OF THE BALTIC AND NORDIC DIPLOMATS
On 26 April in Gdynia, the football team of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania gained the title of champions in the third Baltic-Nordic diplomats’ football tournament of the Baltic Cup. The team of the Lithuanian diplomats won a 4:0 victory at the determinative, final match against the Estonian team and without serious fouls defended the title of champions, which they had won in Tallinn, in 2006.
The third place was won by the hosts – the Polish team, the fourth went to the Danish, and the Finnish team got the fifth place.
The highest-scoring player at the tournament was Gintaras Pilikauskas, he scored even 9 goals. The greatest technique was demonstrated by the goalkeeper of the team Danas Vaitkevičius, who did not allow the rival team to score a single goal during the final match.
The line-up of the team of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Piotras Babachinas, Audrius Bendinskas, Darius Degutis, Rolandas Kačinskas, Jurijus Kleimionovas, Tomas Lukoševičius, Gintaras Pilikauskas, Artūras Slavinskas, Mindaugas Stankevičius, Artūras Šilanskas, Danas Vaitkevičius and Dainius Žikevičius.
Teams from Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Denmark and Finland took part in the tournament.
The fourth Baltic-Nordic diplomats’ football tournament is planned in Finland in 2009. The first one was organized in Lithuania in 2005, and the second was organized in Estonia, in 2006.
This already traditional tournament of diplomats was initiated in 2005 by the diplomats from the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
