On 27-28 July Lithuanian Consul General in Grodno Daiva Mockuvienė and diplomats from the Lithuanian Embassy in Minsk visited Brest, Belarussian city in the South-East part of the country with a population of some 290 thousand residents.. The Lithuanian Delegation met with heads of municipal authorities and attended events commemorating the 985th anniversary of Brest and the 60th anniversary of liberation of the city from the Nazi forces during World War II.
During the visit, the Lithuanian diplomats met with representatives of the local Businesspeople Union to discuss business opportunities in Lithuania and Belarus, possibilities of cooperation with Lithuanian business structures. The local business community showed great interest in cooperation with Lithuanian companies. They were especially interested in light industry and tourism exhibitions organised in Lithuania.
The Lithuanian Delegation also visited Brest free economic zone established in 1996, the largest one in Belarus. Investment conditions in the zone were discussed during a meeting with heads of the Brest free economic zone, which hosts some 100 German, Polish, U.S., Russian, Canadian, Israeli and other companies at present.
