On 30 October-1 November, the delegation led by State Secretary of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Evaldas Ignatavičius, visited Argentina.
During the visit, MFA State Secretary Ignatavičius met with Argentine MFA Viceminister Jorge Taiana and municipal authorities of Buenos Aires.
During the meetings with Argentine officials, bilateral issues of Lithuania and Argentina were discussed as well as the countries’ cooperation in implementing the UN reform, participating in peacekeeping missions and developing cultural cooperation. The participants of the meetings also exchanged opinions on the topical issues of the international policy and economy. The Argentine delegation also assured that the country would support Lithuania’s candidature to the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
During the visit, agreements on visa requirements suppression the “Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Lithuania and the Government of the Argentine Republic on visa requirements suppression for holders of diplomatic and official or service passports” and the “Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Lithuania and the Government of the Argentine Republic on suppression of visas in ordinary passports” were signed. MFA State Secretary Ignatavičius and the Ambassador of Costa Rica in Argentine also signed the “Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Lithuania and the Government of Costa Rica on the mutual abolition of visa requirements”.
At the meetings with representatives of the Lithuanian-Argentine Trade Association, the Argentine Industrial Union, and the Argentine Chamber of Industry and Commerce, issues of economic cooperation were discussed; a cooperation agreement was signed between these organisations and the Lithuanian Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts.
The Lithuanian MFA delegation also visited the city of Berisso, where they met with the local Lithuanian community.
On 31 October-1 November in Argentina, the MFA officials participated in the congress of Lithuanian honorary consuls in Latin America. The Lithuanian delegation acquainted the participants of the event with the latest news of political and economic life as well as the topical issues of consular work.
