LITHUANIAN DIPLOMAT APPOINTED AS SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE OF THE SECRETARY GENERAL OF THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE IN MOLDOVA

Lithuanian diplomat Birutė Abraitienė is appointed Special Representative of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe in Moldova. The Government of Lithuania delegated B.Abraitienė to this position.

On 21 January in Moldova, B.Abraitienė had meetings with Acting President of Moldova Mihai Ghimpu and other high-ranking officials of this country, they discussed cooperation prospects between the Council of Europe and Moldova, Moldova’s reintegration plans and possible programmes of the Council of Europe, aimed at building the confidence of residents on both shores of the Dniester. Issues of international donor support coordination and the reform of the local self-administration in Moldova were also discussed.

On 26-27 January, Lithuania’s Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius will pay a visit to Moldova together with the Lithuanian business mission. On 15 January, Moldova’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Iurie Leanca paid a visit to Lithuania. He attended an informal meeting of European and North American experts on international and security policy.
