On May 11-12, the Lithuanian delegation, led by Deputy Foreign Minister Dalia Grybauskaitė, participated in the ministerial conference of the EU and associated countries in Ljubljana (Slovenia). The participants of the conference have discussed issues related to the new round of negotiations of the World Trade Organization, which is planned to start in November, this year.
The position of the EU candidate countries in the new round of negotiations of WTO, as well as problems of new issues of negotiations - competition, investments, and protection of environment, were discussed in the conference. One of the most important issues in the agenda was the harmonization of trade policies of the candidate countries with the requirements of the EU trade policy. A Joint declaration, which expressed support for the new round of negotiations of WTO, was adopted during the conference.
On April 24, the Seimas of Lithuania ratified the results of Lithuania's negotiations for membership in WTO, and from May 31 Lithuania is to become the 141st member of WTO.
