On 28 March, Deputy Foreign Minister Giedrius Čekuolis met with the Swedish delegation headed by Swedish Foreign Ministry's Central and Eastern Europe Department's Deputy Director Dag Hartelius.
During the meeting, the officials discussed bilateral relations, co-operation in the field of security and exchanged opinions on relevant aspects of security and defence policy, the future of the European Common Foreign and Security Policy and prospects of co-operation in the Baltic Sea Region. "The Swedish officials reaffirmed their support for Lithuania and the other Baltic states' aspirations to seek NATO membership and expressed confidence that it will only strengthen security and stability in the region" - Giedrius Čekuolis said after the meeting.
Dag Hartelius noted that Swedish assistance for Lithuania is developing into the co-operation of fully-fledged partners.
Sweden provides assistance for Lithuanian army by training Lithuanian military experts, donating armaments and carrying out joint projects with the Baltic states such as BALTPERS (personnel management system), BALTMED (support to medical service of armed forces), etc.
