LITHUANIAN CHIEF OF DIPLOMACY MEETS FOREIGN MINISTERS OF MOLDOVA, AZERBAIJAN AND GEORGIA

On 2 May, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Antanas Valionis held bilateral meetings with Moldavian, Azerbaijani and Georgian Foreign Ministers. Meeting Antanas Valionis, Moldavian Foreign Minister Nikolaj Dudau was positive about Lithuania’s Chairmanship at the Ministerial Committee of the Council of Europe (CoE) and underscored that Moldova, which next December will take over the Chairmanship of the Organisation, is determined to continue Lithuania’s initiatives. The Moldavian chief of diplomacy expressed interest in Lithuania’s experience of CoE Chairmanship. Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Vilajat Gulijev recalled the visit of Lithuanian Foreign Minister in the capacity of CoE Ministerial Committee’s Chairman in Azerbaijan. The officials discussed the difficulties of establishing the border in the Caspian Sea and situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. Antanas Valionis extended the invitation to Azerbaijani Parliamentary Chairman to come to the session of the Baltic Assembly together with Georgian and Armenian Parliamentary Chairmen. Azerbaijani chief of diplomacy invited Antanas Valionis to attend bilateral political consultations in Azerbaijan’s capital Baku. During the meeting with Georgian Foreign Minister Irakli Menagarishvili, Lithuanian chief of diplomacy offered condolences for the victims of the earthquake in Georgia. The officials discussed bilateral co-operation in the fight against corruption, possibilities for collaboration of border security agencies and preparation of economic co-operation agreements. Antanas Valionis and the Foreign Ministers of the South Caucasus states also considered the prospects for further co-operation of the Baltic and Black Sea states.
