Lithuanian-Bulgarian bilateral political consultations take place in Vilnius

The bilateral political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and Bulgaria took place on 17 June in Vilnius.

The Bulgarian delegation was led by the Deputy Foreign Minister Rumen Alexandrov. A meeting with the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Neris Germanas focused on prospects for bilateral relations. The officials discussed matters of mutual importance, including regional security, the EU’s policy towards its eastern neighbours and the situation in the Western Balkans. In a meeting with his Bulgarian counterpart, Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister Raimundas Karoblis also discussed topical items on the EU’s agenda.

Germanas also met with the new Ambassador of Bulgaria to Lithuania, who resides in Warsaw, Emil Yalnazov. The Ambassador presented his letters of credence to the President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė on the same day.

The two sides gave a positive evaluation to the close cooperation between the countries that shared similar positions on major issues related to the EU policy and items on the EU agenda, and agreed to further tap the potential for the cooperation in the future.

Lithuania and Bulgaria re-established their diplomatic relations on 10 September 1991. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the re-establishment of the diplomatic relations.
