LITHUANIAN, BELARUSIAN AND POLISH POETS AND PAINTERS ARE WORKING TOGETHER IN NIDA

A meeting of poets and painters from Belarus, Poland and Lithuania has been arranged on 8-13 September in Nida. The gathering offers a good opportunity to artists from these countries to paint, discuss and exchange ideas, as well as to share their experiences.

The expected result of this art workshop is a common trilingual album. The plenary is attended by 29 artists.

The aim of the art workshop is to enable Belarusian artists to join the ongoing creative process of Lithuanian Writers’ Union and Literary Association in Poland and in this way to contribute to the establishment of Belarusian civil society, within which people from the field of culture would enjoy a high standing.

Such Belarusian literati as Taciana Sapach, Barys Piatrovich, Aleh Minkin and Uladzimer Niakliayev are taking part in the event, which is an important step taken in order to promote activities of the Union of Belarusian Writers. Belarusian painters Katsiaryna Sumarava, Genadziy Drazdov, Aliaksey Marachkin and Ryhor Sitnitsa are participating in this event as well.

In 2006 in Vilnius the Union of Belarusian Writers was re-established in cooperation with Lithuanian Writers’ Union, and one hundred years’ history of the Nasha Niva newspaper was commemorated, a round table discussion “Lithuania and Belarus: crossroads of history and art” with the participation of the Lithuanian and Belarusian Writers’ Unions was held and final arrangements are being made for the publication of a bilingual anthology of Belarusian poetry.

It is planned to continue this project in the future and invite more participants from the neighbouring countries.

This project is being implemented by the Writers’ Union Fund and financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
