LITHUANIAN-AZERBAIJAN POLITICAL CONSULTATIONS IN BAKU
On 1-4 April in Baku, Lithuanian-Azerbaijan consultations of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs on the Neighbourhood Policy in the East and policy planning issues are taking place.
During the consultations, Director of the Eastern Neighbourhood Policy Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania Arūnas Vinčiūnas and Director of the Policy Planning Department Mindaugas Butkus met with Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov and other representatives from Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the meetings, possibilities for Lithuanian experts to participate in the projects that are under the implementation in Azerbaijan and reforms in the country were discussed. The energy strategy of Azerbaijan and the Caspian Sea region countries was also talked about, a potential cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union in the area of energy, TransCaspian project and other issues were debated.
During the meetings with representatives from Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, relations of this country with neighbouring countries, such as Iran, Russia, Turkey and Pakistan, relationship between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and the conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh were also analysed.
In Baku, Lithuanian diplomats met with representatives from Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Transport, Ministry for Industry and Energy, Ministry of Economic Development and the General Secretary of the Permanent Secretariat of the TRACECA (the Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia) Intergovernmental Commission, and discussed with them important issues of bilateral, multilateral and regional cooperation in the area of transport, possibilities for development cooperation. Opinions were also exchanged on the cooperation, forming the Viking and TRACECA transport corridors.
